What is The Hookset Group?

A high-performance ecosystem integrating professional roofing services, contractor-focused marketing, and intelligent business automation systems.

How often should I have my roof inspected?

We recommend annual inspections, especially after storms. If your roof is over 15 years old, consider inspections twice yearly. Free inspections available anytime.

What's the lifespan of asphalt shingles?

Standard 3-tab shingles last 15-20 years. Architectural (dimensional) shingles last 25-30 years. Premium/luxury shingles can reach 40+ years. We'll help you choose the best option for your budget and Wisconsin's climate.

How long does a roof replacement typically take?

Most residential roofs are completed in 1-3 days depending on size and weather. We'll give you a clear timeline upfront and keep you updated throughout.

What's included in your workmanship warranty?

5 years of full coverage on all labor. If any issue arises from our installation, we fix it free. Plus, manufacturer warranties on materials typically range 10-30 years depending on the shingle.

Can you repair just part of my roof or does it need full replacement?

We assess each roof individually. Often, targeted repairs are sufficient. We only recommend full replacement when it's cost-effective and safer long-term.

What brand of shingles do you install?

We're certified installers for Owens Corning, GAF, and CertainTeed. We help you choose based on budget, warranty, and aesthetic preference.

Do you tear off the old roof or install over it?

We always recommend a full tear-off. Installing over an existing roof hides underlying damage, adds excessive weight, and voids most manufacturer warranties. We'll inspect the deck after tear-off and replace any rotted wood.

Will you replace damaged decking or just the shingles?

We inspect all decking after tear-off. Any rotted, warped, or soft boards are replaced before new underlayment goes down. Decking replacement is billed at a per-sheet rate — we'll show you exactly what needs replacing before charging.

What's the cost difference between 3-tab and architectural shingles?

Architectural shingles typically cost 15-25% more than 3-tab but last 10+ years longer, resist wind better, and look significantly better. Most homeowners find the upgrade pays for itself.

How do you protect my property during a roof replacement?

We use magnetic nail sweepers, tarps over landscaping and patios, and plywood over sensitive areas. We do a full cleanup at the end of each day and a final magnetic sweep before we leave.

Do you offer emergency leak repairs?

Absolutely. 24/7 emergency service for roof leaks, storm damage, and urgent repairs. Same-day response available throughout southern Wisconsin.

How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement?

If damage is isolated (a few shingles, flashing, or a small leak), a repair is usually sufficient. If your roof is near the end of its lifespan, has widespread damage, or multiple leaks, replacement is more cost-effective. We'll give you an honest assessment either way.

What are the most common causes of roof leaks?

Damaged or missing shingles, cracked flashing around chimneys and vents, ice dams in winter, clogged gutters causing water backup, and aging sealant. We identify the root cause, not just the symptom.

Can you fix a leaking chimney or skylight?

Yes. We repair and replace flashing, step shingles, and sealants around chimneys, skylights, vents, and dormers. These are common leak points that many contractors overlook.

How much does a typical roof repair cost?

Most repairs range from $300-$1,500 depending on scope. Minor shingle replacement is on the low end; flashing replacement or fixing structural damage is higher. We provide a detailed estimate before any work begins.

Do you offer warranties on repairs?

Yes, repairs come with a 2-year workmanship warranty. If the same area leaks again due to our repair, we fix it free.

How long does a metal roof last?

Standing seam metal roofs last 40-70 years. Exposed fastener metal roofs last 30-50 years. With proper installation, a metal roof can be the last roof you ever buy.

Is a metal roof worth the extra cost?

Metal roofing costs 2-3x more than asphalt upfront, but lasts 2-3x longer, requires almost no maintenance, can lower insurance premiums, and improves energy efficiency. Over 30+ years, it's often the cheaper option.

Will a metal roof be loud during rain?

No. When installed over solid decking with proper underlayment, a metal roof is no louder than an asphalt roof. The noise myth comes from old barn-style installations with open framing.

Does a metal roof attract lightning?

No. Metal roofs do not attract lightning. In fact, metal is non-combustible, so if lightning does strike, a metal roof is safer than wood or asphalt. It disperses the energy safely.

Can you install a metal roof over my existing shingles?

In some cases, yes — if the existing roof is in good condition, has only one layer, and local code allows it. However, we typically recommend a tear-off to inspect the deck and ensure the best installation.

What types of metal roofing do you install?

We install standing seam (concealed fastener), corrugated/exposed fastener panels, and metal shingles that mimic slate or wood shake. Standing seam is the premium option — best durability, best aesthetics, best warranty.

How does a metal roof perform in Wisconsin winters?

Excellent. Metal roofs shed snow efficiently, preventing ice dams and excessive weight buildup. They also resist wind, hail, and freeze-thaw cycles better than any other roofing material.

What's the difference between EPDM and TPO?

EPDM is a rubber membrane (black or white) that's been used for decades — proven, flexible, and affordable. TPO is a newer thermoplastic membrane that's white, more energy-efficient, and heat-welded at seams. Both are excellent; we'll recommend based on your building and budget.

How long do flat roofs last?

EPDM roofs last 20-30 years. TPO roofs last 15-25 years. Proper installation and drainage are the biggest factors in longevity — that's our specialty.

Do you install flat roofs on residential homes?

Yes. We install EPDM and TPO on flat or low-slope residential roofs (porches, additions, garages, modern homes) as well as commercial buildings.

Why is my flat roof pooling water?

Flat roofs should have a slight slope (at least 1/4 inch per foot) toward drains. Pooling indicates improper slope, clogged drains, or membrane settling. Standing water degrades the membrane faster and should be addressed promptly.

Can you repair a flat roof or does it need full replacement?

Many flat roof issues — seam failures, punctures, flashing leaks — can be repaired without full replacement. If the membrane is aging, has widespread cracking, or has multiple failed seams, replacement is more cost-effective long-term.

What types of siding do you install?

Vinyl, fiber cement (James Hardie), engineered wood, and metal siding. We help you choose based on budget, maintenance preference, climate performance, and aesthetic goals.

How long does siding installation take?

Most residential siding projects take 3-7 days depending on house size, siding type, and whether we're removing old siding. We provide a clear timeline before starting.

Is fiber cement siding worth the cost?

Fiber cement (James Hardie) costs more than vinyl upfront but lasts 30-50 years, resists fire and insects, holds paint for 15+ years, and significantly boosts curb appeal and home value. For long-term homeowners, it's an excellent investment.

Do you remove old siding before installing new?

We always recommend removing old siding to inspect the sheathing and weather barrier underneath. Installing over damaged siding hides rot and creates uneven surfaces. We'll assess and advise during your free inspection.

Can you match my existing siding color?

If you're doing a partial replacement or addition, we'll work with manufacturers to find the closest match. For full replacements, we bring physical color samples to your home so you can see them in natural light.

What's the warranty on siding installation?

5-year workmanship warranty on all siding installations. Manufacturer warranties vary by product: vinyl 20-50 years, fiber cement 30-year limited, engineered wood 25-30 years.

What types of gutters do you install?

Seamless aluminum gutters (most popular), copper gutters (premium), and steel gutters (heavy-duty). Seamless gutters are custom-cut on-site to your home's exact measurements — no leaky seams.

How long do gutters last?

Aluminum gutters: 20-30 years. Copper gutters: 50+ years. Steel gutters: 15-20 years. Proper maintenance (cleaning, securing loose brackets) extends lifespan significantly.

Do you install gutter guards?

Yes, we install several types of gutter guards including mesh screens, reverse-curve, and micro-mesh systems. We'll recommend the best option based on your tree coverage and budget.

What size gutters do I need?

Standard 5-inch gutters work for most homes. 6-inch gutters are recommended for larger roofs, areas with heavy rainfall, or homes surrounded by trees. We calculate based on roof area and pitch.

Can you replace just a section of damaged gutter?

For sectional gutters, yes. For seamless gutters, a damaged section usually requires replacing the full run since there are no joints to splice into. We'll assess and give you the most cost-effective option.

Why are my gutters pulling away from the house?

Usually caused by clogged gutters (water weight), deteriorated fascia boards, or loose/missing brackets. We inspect the fascia, replace rotted wood, and reinstall with proper brackets and spacing.

Do you handle storm damage and insurance claims?

Yes, we manage the entire process. We document damage with photos and drone imagery, help file your claim, meet with the insurance adjuster on-site, and handle all communication so you don't have to.

What should I do immediately after storm damage?

Call us first. We'll perform an emergency inspection, document all damage, and if needed, install temporary tarping to prevent further water intrusion. Then we'll guide you through filing your insurance claim.

Do you offer emergency tarping?

Yes, 24/7 emergency tarping for active leaks and storm damage. We secure the damaged area immediately to prevent further interior damage while the insurance process plays out.

Will my insurance rates go up if I file a storm damage claim?

In most states, filing a single weather-related claim does not increase your individual rates — storm damage is considered an 'act of God.' However, we recommend confirming with your insurance agent. We can't guarantee rates won't change, but we make the claims process as smooth as possible.

How long do I have to file a storm damage claim?

It varies by insurer and policy — typically 6 months to 2 years from the date of the storm. We recommend filing as soon as possible while evidence is fresh. We provide full documentation to support your claim.

What if the insurance adjuster says there's no damage?

We provide our detailed inspection report with photos and drone imagery to support your claim. If the adjuster's assessment differs, we'll meet with them on-site to walk through our findings. We advocate for you throughout the process.

Can you help with supplemental claims if more damage is found during repairs?

Absolutely. If we discover hidden damage during the project (rotted decking, structural issues), we document it and submit a supplemental claim to your insurance. You shouldn't pay for storm-related damage your policy covers.

What's included in your lawn care service?

Mowing, edging, trimming, blowing of hard surfaces, and basic lawn inspection. We offer weekly or biweekly schedules. Fertilization, aeration, and weed control available as add-ons.

Do you offer seasonal lawn packages?

Yes. Our seasonal packages include spring cleanup, weekly mowing May-October, fall leaf removal, and a winterization fertilization. Bundling saves 10-15% vs. individual services.

How often should my lawn be mowed?

Weekly during peak growing season (May-June, September-October). Biweekly is fine during slower growth periods (July-August). We adjust based on weather and grass conditions.
